Recipes for Change
Savory Sustenance
Cooking brought a new sense of comfort to many during the COVID-19 pandemic. While many things were uncertain and rapidly changing, recipes—both old and new—helped many of us find solace and peace at home. With over 100 submissions from 80 students, this cookbook highlights our favorite savory recipes, those that got us through one of the most challenging and frightening times of our lives.
We are sharing our recipe book as a gift, but we ask that, in return, you give what you can—money, time, supplies—to support organizations working to eradicate food insecurity. Food scarcity is an ongoing challenge and has been amplified by the conditions of COVID-19 and quarantine. More than ever we need to come together as a community—to provide nourishment and sustenance.
We encourage you to identify and support organizations who are working on food justice. We have highlighted three food justice organizations that inspired our project and are supporting food security through community empowerment: Black Food Sovereignty Coalition (BFSC); Migrant Justice or Community Alliance for Global Justice (CAGJ). We are also asking for you to help support mutual aid organizations who are helping millions in Texas survive without power.
